Lophomyrtus obcordata is an endemic evergreen shurb that is found in mostly in the east of both islands. It's a slim shrub growing up to 6m high. The leaves are small and heart shaped with dark leaf veins. In summer it bears white myrtle like flowers that are a good food source for native bees, honey bees and bumblebees. These become dark red fruits in autumn that are a food source for native birds. It is mostly found in lowland forests and forest edges or gaps. It can tolerate sun, shade, wind, frost and drought. However, it will grow best with organic rich soil so provide compost and organic mulch when planting.
