This harsh environment of Central Otago ...
... grows tough garden, landscaping and re-vegetation plants.
Our plants are all grown locally so have already adapted to the local environment, resulting in stronger growing and more resilient plants. Our plants are proven to thrive in areas where others may fail and die.

Hand selected plant material become containerised plants in our nursery, in turn becoming fine mature specimens at your planting job. We offer a wide selection of plants ready for your garden, or with advance notice can prepare a supply for your largest landscaping or re-vegetation project.
To help preserve the unique gene pool of the native plants of Otago, we attempt to grow plants of local provenance, or "eco sourced", which we define as propagated from seed collected within 150km and 300m in elevation from the planting site. Genetic adaptation to the varying conditions across the country can result in plants of the same species differing in cold hardiness, tolerance to drought and wind, colour, etc. Eco sourcing not only preserves irreplaceable genetic diversity, but may improve plant performance in tough conditions.
Our goal is to transition our natives to 100% eco sourced within the next 5 years. If eco sourcing is essential for your project, please let us know.
Restoring the natural environment starts with planting. Correct plant choice forms a strong foundation for clean air, water, and habitat for wild insects and birds. We supply plants for re-vegetation projects that will improve our country not only for ourselves, but generations to come.
Previously Shotover Garden Centre
Samantha and Kelvin began Springburn Nursery after selling the Shotover Garden Centre, which was Queenstown's local garden centre for over 30 years, and now the site of Bunnings Warehouse. Our goal now is to grow the best quality and value plants for the people of Central Otago and beyond. We also have goals for the success of the nursery to enable us to drive reforestation and revegetation projects on the adjacent land.
