Common/Maori name(s): syn. Shawia bullata
Olearia bullata is an endemic evergreen shrub growing to 2m high. Often found in montane shrub and scrubland. Leaves are small and grey with a downy covering which help it withstand wind and extreme sun. Branches are stiff and slender making this a good shrub to hold shape if trimmed. In late spring and early summer it bears small daisy white flowers which are lightly scented to attract moths and other insects. Can tolerates dry periods but prefers regular moisture in well draining soil making it a good plant for inital riparian planting and seeps. As a mountain plant it is very hardy to frost.
