A tough evergreen shrub that is commonly used for hedging as it tolerates regular pruning. Can grow to 4m high and wide if left unpruned. Fast growing 30-40cm a year in good conditions however growth may be less in the first year after planting as the roots get established. Small white flowers in autumn are sweetly fragrant producing berries in spring. Very tolerant of high winds and frosts down to -15 to -20c. Drought tolerant and will grow anywhere except waterlogged soils and deep shade.
