A lovely option for a kowhai tree sometimes prefered for its larger leaves and straighter branching habit. Grows to 10m high by 3m wide. Flowers are larger and slightly earlier than microphylla however it is not as hardy and drought tolerant as the former. Evergreen, but will drop leaves in hard frosts. Best planted in full sun in a warm site. Plant in moist but well drained soil. Hardy but avoid places that regularly get to minus 10c.
