One of the earliest natives to flower in late winter/ early spring. Iconic bright yellow kowhai flowers are nestled in with the delicate looking foliage. A kowhai for the smaller garden growing 2m high by 2.5m wide. Not as hardy as S. microphylla but still will tolerate most frosts especially if planted with some shelter in a sunny spot. Prefers sun - part shade in moist but well drained soil. Will attract nectar feeding birds to your garden.
