This deciduous shrub is best known for its bright red stems that are most attractive in winter. Best planted in a sunny location in moist but well - drained soil, although it is tolerant of drought and wet soil. Grows to 3m but can be kept smaller by coppicing in early spring which also creates the best stem colour.
